A Catch Up

I know it has been a while since I have last posted. Everything has been so crazy busy. Jon has been travelling with work and I have been handling everything else.

School is getting better for Jack. We have been working with a behavioral psychologist since the middle of August and she has given us a lot of help both at home and at school. We are making progress. He got his first report card and did AMAZING. He got 2 E's and 1 S. To get an E you have to have an average of 90% or higher.

Jon is done travelling for right now. He goes back to Texas in a few weeks for only a few days. Hopefully that will be his last trip. I'm glad that he is not going overseas but I really do miss him when he is gone.

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Ate a ton of food and Jess and I even did some Black Friday shopping. We had a blast - we laughed until it was time to go home. We are slowly getting ready for Christmas. For some reason I am not ready for Christmas. I think any other year I would have already had most of the presents bought or put on layaway by now. I have just been slacking for some reason.

For now.

Moving on to the 2nd week

Whew! Last week was crazy!! By the end of the week, many prayers and questions had been answered. Jack's new medicine is working wonderfully and we are praying for great results from here on out. He has had a couple of side effects from it but I think that we have those under control as well. I guess that it was to be expected that come the end of the first week of school Jack would be sick. Here it is Sunday and he has a cold. He had a very high fever yesterday and thankfully we got that under control. He is feeling a little better today but missed church so not to give it to anyone else.

It looks like Jon will be home before the end of the week. We have missed him and will be glad to have him back.

Now on to the 2nd week of school!

First Day of Kindergarten

Monday was the first day of school and Jack was very excited about going. He has a wonderfully amazing teacher and I believe that she is going to be great for him. Yesterday was a very rough day for him. After much talking with the teacher, Jon and Jack's pediatrician we decided that he needed some help in channeling his energy. We decided to put him on some medicine for kids with ADHD. Let me say these couple of things. We in no way wanted to put him on any type of medicine and at the point we were at yesterday had just about exhausted every option and avenue that we possibly could have. Secondly, the doctor did not diagnose him with ADHD. She just said that he has an excessive amount of energy and just needs something to help channel the energy.

Today was the first day of him using the medicine and it made all the difference. He had a much better day today and only got in trouble for talking at the table.

Here are some pictures from the first day:

The Night Before Kindergarten

Well tonight is the night before Jack's first day of kindergarten. I am so excited for my sweet little boy and the adventures that he is going to face. I can't believe that 5 years has passed and we are starting elementary school already. He is growing so fast.

We are a little sad because Jon is not here to experience it with the 2 of us. Since Jon is out of town, my mom took the first day of school off of work. I am so thankful for my mom and all of her support.

I will post more plus pictures from the first day.

Life in April and May

Let's play a little game of catch up. April was a busy month. Post Passion Play haze. Easter. Got Jack's letter letting us know that he had been accepted into the magnet school we requested for kindergarten in 2012-2013. Friends had babies. Friends had babies in the NICU in need of the healing hand of the Great Physician. Jack wanted to pray for baby Norah. A sweet soul of a child. The dog fully took my place in the bed.

May - moving closer to the summer. First things first - 29th birthday. Kindergarten registration. Free tickets to Jeff Allen. 1000 Gifts by Ann Voskamp - life changing. Dinner with the Passion Play ladies. Kentucky Derby. 7 year anniversary. More time at the doc's office. More xrays and an MRI. More meds. Grandmother moving back to the westside - 2 minutes from my house. Hanging out with family. Mother's Day. A new series on creation. Dreamette. A third surgery in less than a year. USA v. Scotland soccer game - amazing seats with an amazing friend. Tropical Storm Beryl. Grandmother's 82nd birthday. Memorial Day.

I am looking forward to June. The first 5 days have been wonderful.

Its been awhile!

I know, I know. It has been awhile since I last wrote. We have been super busy with life. Passion Play has come and gone. Boy, was that a wonderful time this year. We had a huge cast, a huge stage, and a lot of fun!!! During that time I was going to physical therapy for a pain in my knee. Well I did all of the time that I was supposed to and went back to the doctor. He told me that there was nothing wrong with my knee but that I had an infection in the bone of my right leg. So he put me on a heavy medicine for a few weeks. I began taking it and then about 2 weeks into it, I began to have a reaction to it so they switched my medicine. Well that one didn't work either so Wednesday I will be having surgery on my leg. God has given me a peace about the surgery and I am ready to have it done so that it can be over and my leg on its way to healing.

A Little Mourning...

Well tonight after a short illness, Jack's first real pet went to heaven. My mom got him a guinea pig for Easter last year and we had all come to love that silly thing. Boy did Jack love her and she loved him! He is sad and has asked lots of questions about what happened to her so we have been able to teach him a little more about death - not really something you want to teach an almost 5 year old but you must do it at some point.

I don't think that we will be getting another small animal anytime soon - as we have 2 cats and a 90 lb lab. We are going to continue to talk with Jack about what happens when animals and people die and where they go - although he already told us that most people go to heaven, but "not everyone."

Oh my sweet boy.

February

January ended and February began like a whirlwind. We ended January with Pastors' Conference and Jon out of town working. We took Jack out of school at the end of January and he has been staying home with my sister. I have been enjoying Mom to Mom on Wednesday night - it is always a part of the week that I most look forward to. My dad's 47th birthday came and I missed him terribly on that day. We spent a much needed family day in St. Augustine. My wonderful boss got to spend 2 weeks in Hawaii - I was a little jealous. Jack and I went to Luke's football game and it was wonderful! We had a wonderful family valentine's day. Jon and I spent a day with the Braig kids and had an absolute blast. We also patiently waited on the IRS to send us our tax refund (note the sarcasm). Got my Passion Play script!! The timing belt COMPLETELY went out on our way to Disney - thankfully we weren't very far from home. And to end the month off, we welcomed a new sweet little boy to our crazy family (not me but my cousin).

March is going to be great. Planning for the next trip to Israel is underway. Passion Play rehearsal will be beginning in the next few weeks. We are heading to Disney on Sunday night. Jon is getting ready to start travelling again.

For now.

What a crazy January!

I kind of had a feeling when 2012 started that it was going to be a busy year - and January hasn't proved me wrong yet. We were busy with school and a laundry list of "problems" that Jack was having. We have had him tested and after a few too many calls to me decided that it was best to just with draw him for the time being to see if that helped with his "problems." We think that he is still trying to figure out how to be 4 and are hoping that by taking some huge expectations off of him it will help his behavior.

Jon has begun to travel again. Last weekend, he had to fly to Mississippi for a whole 26 hours. On Sunday, he leaves for Arkansas for 2 weeks of school. So he will miss the last week and a half of this month.

As for me, January has been busy with work and different events going on. Next Thursday starts Pastors' Conference so it is going to be a busy weekend. Mom to Mom has also started back and I have really needed the time with the girls in my group.

See you in February!

A Farewell to 2011...

2011 was a great year. It was our first full year back together as a family. We took a couple of trips down to Orlando - Disney and IKEA were on the agenda. Pastors' Conference. A guinea pig. Passion Play - over 15,000 people watching in person. ISRAEL!!!!! A potty trained little boy. A 4 YEAR old little boy. Starting choir (Jack). Starting VPK. Starting Mom to Mom (me). Jon starting a new job - that is 15 minutes away from home. Jon travelling - A LOT. 4th knee surgery. 5 weeks later - a 2nd surgery for staph infection - thankfully not MRSA. Knee feeling 100% better - AMAZING doc. Pinterest. Thanksgiving and Christmas.

We are looking forward to 2012.
